What Change Does President Obama Have in Mind for Online Casinos

By: Sharon Gerad

In April of 2006 President Bush Signed the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act into law. This law states that it is the responsibility of the banks and financial institutions to stop all transfer of funds to and from any account inside the USA for the purposes of gambling.

The problem is that the banks and financial institutions were not set up for this and warned that the money it would require to set up a system that could do this would cost billions of dollars and in the end would not be fully effective.

Now that billions of dollars have been spent people are speculating that the new government of President Elect Obama will overturn the UIGEA and put in place laws to regulate online gambling. Many people think that this will be one of Obama's first moves in office to help jumpstart the economy.

This would be a giant step in the direction of fixing the American economy. The United States has lost many jobs and had many corporations move from the United States to countries where they can pay their employees a much lower wage and thus increase the company's profitability, but by regulating and legalizing online casinos in the USA you will not only be able to tax players on their winnings, but when American casinos open their casinos up to online players they will probably wind up bringing a very large percentage of the players of online casinos to American online casinos and increase the money the government gets every year in taxes by several billions of dollars every year.

This money could then be used to help lower the tax burden of the average person and give the government money it needs to help fund schools and social programs for those who are badly in need of help within our own boarders.

This move of legalizing online casino gambling in the USA will also help clear up Americas problems with the WTO, who currently claim that banning online gambling is against an agreement with the WTO and who is currently bringing lawsuits against the American government in an attempt to force them to give up more on other trade issues such as increasing tax incentives for companies that move some of their operations to these countries or to open the internet to foreign online casinos.

There have not been any mention of this from the Obama camp, but this plan is being thought of as one of the best ways to being in much needed money to the United States and once American casinos are allowed to join in the online business it is expected to create thousands of good paying jobs.

The downside to this plan is that it is possible that many of the jobs that will be created will be outsourced to companies overseas, but maybe President Obama can find a way to fix that debacle after reversing the online gambling laws and allowing individual people to decide what is right or wrong on their own.
