The Truth about Repairing your Credit

By: Creditscorecowboy.com

When it comes to repairing your credit the true fact is that, you are capable of repairing your own credit without the help of credit repair firms. The majority of credit repair firms do the same exact thing that you can do without any magical powers or special insider information.

The money that a person spends for these so-called credit repair companies could have aided them in repairing their credit. In addition to this fact, is the result that you still do not have great credit and everything that they promised would magically disappear is still on your credit report. The only difference is that you are out the money you paid them to repair your credit and you still have no idea how to repair your own credit.

When you are trying to repair your credit and you have found discrepancies on your credit report, you do not have to pay anyone to investigate the matter or research the pertinent facts. All you have to do is contact the credit bureau that has the discrepancy and write a 100-word statement explaining your side of the story. Do not listen to anyone that asks for money to research your credit history. You can receive a copy of your credit history from the three major credit bureaus, which are Experian, TransUnion, and Equifax. They will then send you a copy without you paying any money at all.

There are many companies out there today that state they can clean up your “bad credit” so you can purchase a new home or receive a loan for a new car. No one can clean up your credit history except you. You will have to review your credit report, call creditors and begin making payments, or dispute the bill they have listed. This is the only way to clean up “bad credit”. You can however, work at putting good credit on your report to balance out the bad while paying off old debts or disputing their truthfulness.

The fact is bad credit is bad credit and some of it will stay on your credit report for years, which can be a lot longer than the good credit. Information regarding bankruptcies can stay on your credit report for up to ten years. Other bad credit information may be left off after seven years, unless the creditor files the information again and then it will be on there for another seven years.

The best way to clean up your credit report is to contact the creditors and work out a payment arrangement. As long as you are paying, this will be reported, however it will still show that you did default.
