Hybrid Car & More Hype-00-588

By: Isaac James

The environment has always been a concern when it has to do with the common gas-powered vehicle. Large cars can be loud on the roads, and the exhaust, as far as we can tell, are bad for the ozone. Is there anything a person can do to make the environment better for all of us? The first thought to come to us is you might want to buy a hybrid car. Hybrid cars, the wave of the future, are known for the positive affect on the environment. What the affect of a hybrid vehicle is on the environment is explained below.

Hate all noise on the roads? Conventional cars are basically responsible for a lot of the noise because their engines can be really loud. Hybrids are just the opposite, because hybrid cars use an electrical motor, the noise they give off is greatly reduced when compared to conventionally powered automobiles. At slower speeds that are usually posted in suburban areas, the noise levels of hybrid cars are ideal for the public.

The downside to a low noise levels.

Reduced noise levels could be problematic to those who are blind and the visually impaired who depend on the noise vehicles make while running or at idle. With little noise, the visually impaired find it really difficult to find their way across the street safely. So this group of people is negatively impacted from the low noise level of hybrid cars. However, noise levels alone aren't the only change hybrid cars provide to the environment.

Hybrid cars can assist in reducing the amount of pollutants that’s in the air. The benefit is the respiratory well being of the public is enhanced by the use of hybrid cars.

So if you want to breathe cleaner air, and like having more peace and quiet outdoors, then you definitely want people to start buying and driving hybrid cars. The problem with this is hybrid cars are not the cheapest cars on the dealers’ lot. In fact they cost much more than a traditinal gas powered auto.

The reason a hybrid cars cost is higher is because of the extra batteries, the extra electronics, and at times some other considerations related to a specific design. But don’t let that make you give up because there can be some trade offs.

Generally people think that hybrid cars make up the difference in gas savings and some even think that the cars pay for themselves because of gas savings, but that is not as cut and dry as some might think. That conclusion however, is definitely debatable. It mostly depends on how many miles you drive, the cost of fuel you buy and at times even subsidies from the government come into play.

In April of 2006, a consumer magazine published in an article that hybrid cars couldn’t pay for themselves in 5 years. Later it was discovered that there was a mathematical error in the article. Once the error was corrected, they were able to reveal that a hybrid car make up the cost for itself in less than five years.

The argument over the amount of money a hybrid car can actually save a person is still a hot debate. People Argue that the the money saved is significant. Some debate that they are small. In any case, the real savings seem difficult to calculate and are affected by a variety of factors.

In regions that that have mandated the reduction of pollution you might pay more to own any other vehicle other than a hybrid vehicle. So if you are living in another county with laws to reduce pollution, a hybrid car might be on top of priorities for you.

If you reside in the United States and you want to do something for the environment then you can’t do much better than a hybrid car – if the money is a non factor, then the environment is most likely your most significant consideration.
